The SAFEGROUNDS Learning Network is a forum for developing and disseminating good practice guidance on the management of radioactively and chemically contaminated land on nuclear and defence sites in the UK.

CIRIA produces an e-newsletter three times a year to update all stakeholders on any developments with the SAFEGROUNDS Learning Network. Individuals who are interested in the work of SAFEGROUNDS can sign up as a free network member.

If you are interested in becoming a member of the SAFEGROUNDS Learning Network please click here. Membership is free and as a member you will receive the SAFEGROUNDS newsletter and invitations to participate in future consultations.

Views from existing members:

"SAFEGROUNDS provides an effective forum for RSRL to exchange views with interested parties on land quality issues relating to nuclear sites. "

- Paul Ateyo, Research Sites Restoration Ltd

“There are very few stakeholder dialogues that provide the degree of mutual trust SAFEGROUNDS has delivered.  There is a rapport between industry and NGO’s that I have rarely seen elsewhere.”

- Colin Rogers, Parents Concerned about Hinckley

“Involvement in the SAFEGROUNDS Learning Network has given us insights into external perspectives on land contamination that we might otherwise have gained only in much more adversarial contexts.

Adopting the SAFEGROUNDS Key Principles has been beneficial in dealing with a particular contentious issue at one of our sites.“

- Hugh Richards, Magnox North

“As regulators we are keen to see best practice employed and for sites to learn from one another. Learning networks can only be helpful in disseminating that.”

- David Bennet, Environment Agency
