Current SAFEGROUNDS consultations

The SAFEGROUNDS project to produce a suite of revised and new guidance documents on the management of contaminated land began in September 2006 and will end in 2008. Various stages in the project involve consultations on (1) scope, function and form of guidance documents (2) outline contents and (3) full drafts (for more detail please click here Stakeholder Engagement Plan).

The consultation process

The guidance is being developed using the SAFEGROUNDS document consultation process (pdf) which sets out the key stages of guidance development and consultation. In line with this process, the development of the guidance will be opened up at various stages for steering group and wider consultation through this website, which can be followed in the project consultation logs.

Further background information can be found in the specification for the revision of the SAFEGROUNDS guidance. Click here for further details.

Final consultation on the site characterisation guidance - closed

The site characterisation guidance requires revision because it predates the primary SAFEGROUNDS guidance on the management of contaminated land and its supporting documents, and is not entirely consistent with them. The overall aim is to recast this guidance on site characterisation as a, largely technical, supporting document to LMGv2. Consultation on the second full draft is now closed.

Deadline for comments: Wednesday 2nd April 08
